Following the release of the TUC report on the employment experiences of migrant workers, Anne Fairweather, the RECís Head of Public Policy says the abuse outlined in the report is ìcompletely unacceptable.î
She continued: ìWorkers should receive written contracts, prompt payments and any accommodation provided by employers and agencies should be part of a helpful service rather than a form of exploitation.î
ìMany REC members are already providing migrant workers with a good experience of working in the UK. The REC recommends that migrant workers work through a quality recruitment agency to ensure that they receive their rights, wherever they work.
ìMembers also report that migrant workers form a vital part of their talent pool. Candidate shortages continue to vex the recruitment industry with this monthís Report on Jobs highlighting the ongoing skills shortages in the UK. Migrant workers should therefore be welcomed to the UK as valuable workers.î
The REC has also been proactive in providing information on basic working rights in the UK through a leaflet in Polish and Slovak, which was distributed at jobs fairs in Poland and Slovakia and by REC members directly.
Report on Jobs is published monthly by the REC and KPMG.
