A survey commissioned by JustPartTime.co.uk has revealed that 54% of adults in full time employment would choose to work part time if they could. This figure increased to 59% when women only were questioned. The study involved over 300 adults working in full time employment in London and the midlands. JustPartTime.co.uk aims to make it easier for people to find the part time opportunities they are looking for.

The popularity of part time work is growing: the UK labour force is currently made up of over 7.4 million part time workers, 78% of which are female. As people are opting to work part time due to family commitments, partial retirement or simply from choice, a parallel boom has also taken place in the part time leisure industry. JustPartTime.co.uk was formed to address the increasing need for part time employment, training and business services.. The site has information on a range of areas such as part time childcare, college courses, jobs and business services.. Nina Daranijo, Managing Director, explains the idea behind the new website. ìA student, a working mum, a pensioner, a business owner, anybody in fact, can go onto the JustPartTime site and find all the contacts that they need to virtually run their life. We are confident that this is the first site of its kind in the UK.î

Nina decided to found the company after starting a family. ìLike most young mums I had skills that were valuable within the workplace. I wanted the stimulation of work but also needed to spend time with my children, so I opted for part time employment.î However, Nina found that this kind of lifestyle change wasnít easy. ìI didnít know where to look to for advice on part time work, child care or where to find part time training,î she explains. ìI tried the internet but couldnít locate any sites specifically dedicated to part time jobs or services, so I decided to create a site which could put employers, job boards and part time job seekers in touch with each other, whilst also giving people opting for a lifestyle change all the information that they need to make it work.î

With many businesses beginning to see the advantages of employing part time workers, the Government is also keen to promote a work-life balance and has introduced legislation to support this. A spokesperson for the DTI recently commented that flexible work patterns are ìgood for businessÖgood for familiesÖgood for children.î With the practice of job sharing and more flexibility in the work place, BT and the RAC are two national companies who have implemented a more approach - and have seen increased productivity as result. ìMore and more firms and employees are choosing this option and the website aims to give them all the information that they need at their fingertipsî says Nina.
