2009 HDA Talent Management and Career Transition updates

As we close 2009 and enter into a new year, we are encouraged by the resurgence of interest in talent management! In a year that has been consumed by negativity

As we close 2009 and enter into a new year, we are encouraged by the resurgence of interest in talent management! In a year that has been consumed by negativity, from large scale restructurings to country-wide redundancies; the economic outlook has finally become less bleak - whether this is transitory or longer term is as yet unclear. With this improved outlook, so too has come a renewed focus on 'looking after the survivors'; motivating, engaging and developing those that remain in order to ensure the organisation is best placed to succeed in the longer term. The specific areas that organisations are/should be focusing on at this point are: Retaining talent; Enhancing engagement; Developing leaders; Succession planning; Aligning people strategies with business strategies.

Melissa Gallagher (HDA Talent Management Service Lead)

2009 has been a year of significant activity and development, supporting both our Human Resources clients and individual candidates through a challenging economic climate. We have continued to see the value that Outplacement programmes deliver, helping people move forwards and expedite their settlement into a new role or venture whilst innovatively enhancing our range of resources available such as Vocational Training and workshops geared to today’s market e.g. focusing on personal branding and internet presence. With more optimism within the economy I anticipate that we shall move forward into a more settled period where organisations will consider the benefits of creating a more fluid and motivated workforce by encouraging ‘career ownership’ via a Performance Management structure that makes provision for career development planning and specialised career coaching
