164 million days lost in UK economy last year through absence

Give Your Staff a Head Start

Create a happy and healthy workforce ñ the Evergreen way..

DID you know that workers taking time off sick are costing the UK economy more than 13bn a year?

And with long-term sickness an increasing problem, managers are under growing pressure to look after their employeesí health.

But how can bosses prevent absenteeism and boost the well-being of their workforce?

Leading healthcare specialist Julie Langton-Smith and top life coach Nichola Jacob have formed a unique partnership to help businesses tackle the problem of sick leave.

Their new company - Evergreen Wellness Management (EWM) Consultants ñ is dedicated to improving staff performance through effective health and stress management.

ìWe want to help managers get the best from their employees,î says Langton-Smith. ìSo many people have life pressures which affect work performance, and the knock-on effects for a business can be devastating.

ìLife and work pressures can lead some staff to be grumpy and rude towards colleagues and customers. They are more likely to pull ësickiesí or go on long-term sick leave through stress or depression.

ìBut by taking positive action and tackling these issues before they take root, companies will reap the benefits in terms of productivity and creativity.î

Latest CBI statistics show that 164 MILLION days were lost in the UK economy last year through absence.

As many as 13 per cent of those days were considered non-genuine by employers ñ in other words, staff taking ësickies.í

Long-term absence accounts for over a third of working time lost, with stress cited as one of the major causes of long-term sick leave.

In response to their survey results, the CBI called for ëearly intervention and effective use of occupational health servicesí to help employees get back to work more quickly. EWM Consultants will help businesses rise to that challenge.

ìWe want employees to thrive ñ not just survive,î says Jacob. ìBy working on a one-to-one basis, or with groups, we can enable organisations to develop a deeper understanding of how to manage work pressures.î

EWM Consultants provide advice on issues such as:

ï Effects of high sugar intake and tiredness at work
ï Beating the afternoon lull
ï Managing heavy workloads
ï Diabetes alert and weight management
ï Sleep deprivation
ï Alcohol and substance abuse
ï Rehabilitation back to work
ï Identifying warning signs
ï Techniques on managing work/life balance and wellbeing
ï Personality evaluation

ìOur approach is positive, focusing on individualsí strengths,î says Langton-Smith. ìWe provide a unique combination of health advice and life coaching expertise ñ giving our clients the complete package.î
