8 AI Overview Trackers Compared by What They Record (2026)

A comparison of eight AI Overview tracking tools, covering answer capture, stored evidence, reporting frequency and pricing.

By Theo Lindgren, independent search industry analyst

Featured snippets arrived in January 2014, and Google's Danny Sullivan recalled in 2018 concerns that they "might cause publishers to lose traffic." Rank trackers answered the way they answer most things: years of bolting a featured-snippet column onto position reports. January 2020 then changed what position 1 meant overnight.

AI Overviews ran the same arc, compressed: SGE in Search Labs in May 2023, everyone in the US by May 2024, merged with AI Mode in 2026. Every AI Overview tracker inherits one chapter of it. The pattern rhymes, with one structural difference. A snippet copied your passage; an AI Overview is a paragraph Google writes itself, so a tool that only flags the box keeps the verdict and discards the evidence. The eight below split along that line, into three lineages.

How Do the 8 AI Overview Trackers Compare?

The table compares eight AI Overview trackers in three lineages: how each captures Google's answer, whether it keeps the answer, which other engines it covers, and how often it checks. Prices are as each vendor published them in October 2026.

# Platform Lineage How it captures the AI Overview Keeps the answer? Other engines Cadence Starting price
1 SE Visible by SE Ranking Answer-first Browser session; presence rate, organic overlap Yes, unedited, with engine, market, date ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Mode (Claude planned) Daily default, adjustable Free trial available
2 Profound Answer-first Consumer-experience prompts Customer view ChatGPT, Gemini; 9 on Enterprise Daily 7-day trial; Enterprise custom
3 ZipTie Answer-first Answer plus top-10 organic Yes, with sources Six, incl. AI Mode Daily to monthly $42.75/mo (50 prompts/day, 3 engines)
4 Otterly.AI Answer-first Prompts, every plan Not stated ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot Daily $29/mo (15 prompts)
5 Peec AI Answer-first One of 3 models Yes, each chat ChatGPT, AI Mode, Gemini, Copilot Daily $95/mo (50 prompts, 3 models)
6 Semrush Rank tracker Citation counted as #1 Not stated Bing, ChatGPT Search, AI Mode Daily $139/mo; Toolkit $99/mo
7 seoClarity Rank tracker Keywords at scale Yes, snapshots Eight via ArcAI On demand From $2,500/mo
8 Ahrefs Brand Radar Index Prompt, keyword indexes Yes, every response Five, incl. AI Mode Index monthly Prompts from $50/mo

What Should an AI Overview Tracker Measure?

An AI Overview tracker should record whether an AI Overview appeared, what it said, which sources it cited, and how that changed, per market and date. Google's own reporting can't, because it compresses the whole generated answer into one position.

In January 2020, featured snippet pages stopped repeating in the results, and trackers had to relabel their top spot. Search Console now gives every AI Overview link one shared position. Presence swings in SE Ranking's data: 18.45% to 7.47% to 18.76% of one US keyword set in 2024, then from about 28% in May 2025 to nearly 60% in early 2026.

Google AI Overview tracking needs:

  • Capture: the answer, not a presence flag.
  • Storage: engine, market, and date kept.
  • Context: organic and AI Mode, merged in 2026.
  • Cadence: check frequency and history depth.

I read each vendor's product, documentation, and pricing pages in October 2026, then sorted the eight AI Overview tracking tools by measurement model.

Tier 1: What Do Answer-First AI Overview Trackers Keep?

Answer-first trackers store Google's paragraph, not just a presence flag. After the Gemini 3 switch, sourceless AI Overviews went from 0.11% to 10.63%, then 1.27%: only a stored answer shows whether you lost a citation or Google lost its sources.

1. SE Visible

Add your priority queries once, and each AI Overview they trigger is kept as a dated answer you can reopen. SE Visible by SE Ranking is an AI visibility platform that tracks Google AI Overviews alongside AI Mode, ChatGPT, and Gemini.

Best for: in-house search teams and agencies with an AI visibility mandate, reporting AI Overviews next to AI Mode and organic.

Standout: For Google AI Overviews, SE Visible reports an AI Overviews presence rate and your organic top-20 overlap. Presence is the share of tracked queries that triggered an AI Overview. Each figure opens into the unedited answer, stored with its engine, market, and date.

Pros:

  • Collects answers in a real browser session, the surface a person sees, not API calls
  • Sets the market as a country, or a city or region
  • Tracks daily by default; frequency is adjustable in project settings
  • Connects to Looker Studio, exports CSV and XLSX; API access is included on all plans

Cons:

  • Stays within AI visibility: rank tracking, keyword research, and site audits live in SE Ranking, not here
  • Tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Mode, and AI Overviews today; the platform is still growing, and Claude is on the roadmap
  • In-app report building is still maturing; richer reporting runs through Looker Studio and the API

Pricing: Plans are listed on visible.seranking.com, and you can start with a free trial.

What it records: The full answer, along with the flag. Rank trackers spent 2014 to 2020 noting a featured snippet existed; this platform keeps what Google actually wrote. Now that AI Overviews and AI Mode are folded together, tracking both in one project is the practical point.

2. Profound

Profound treats AI answer monitoring as one module of a wider, agent-driven AI marketing platform.

Best for: enterprise brand and search teams buying monitoring within an AI marketing program.

Standout: Profound captures responses directly from the consumer experience rather than from API outputs, so the answer under review is the one a customer saw. Every tracked prompt runs daily, and Enterprise supports 30+ languages, 150+ regions, and up to nine answer engines.

Pros:

  • Shows answers as customers see them
  • Runs every tracked prompt daily
  • Tracks citations, sentiment, and competitors

Cons:

  • Trial prompts are fixed, without history, exports, or API
  • AI Mode is Enterprise only

Pricing: free 7-day trial (50 daily prompts); Enterprise custom.

What it records: the answer as served, this tier's founding instinct. The trial is a preview with no archive: history, exports, and the API arrive with Enterprise, so the Enterprise record is the one to judge.

3. ZipTie

ZipTie captures each engine's live consumer answer, plus Google's organic results for AI Overviews.

Best for: teams that want each AI Overview check stored next to Google's top-10 organic results.

Standout: ZipTie keeps the full answer and its sources, and each Google AI Overviews check also stores the top-10 organic results beside it. The vendor is candid about history: it starts with your first check, and nothing can be backfilled.

Pros:

  • Archives full answers per engine
  • Pools daily, weekly, and monthly prompts
  • Exports CSV, Excel, and PDF

Cons:

  • AI Mode, Perplexity, and Gemini need paid plans
  • API and MCP cost extra

Pricing: from $42.75/mo (50 daily prompts, three engines); 7-day trial.

What it records: the generated answer and the organic page in one frame. For an AI Overview tracker, the backfill line is the lesson: your 2027 archive starts on the day you switch it on.

4. Otterly.AI

Otterly.AI sends search prompts to AI engines and analyzes responses for brand mentions, citations, and source links.

Best for: teams wanting an AI Overviews tracker on every plan, with country-level data.

Standout: Google AI Overviews ships on every Otterly.AI plan, together with ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot, tracked daily across 50+ countries. Responses are analyzed for brand mentions and link citations, and a Looker Studio connector arrives from the Standard plan.

Pros:

  • Includes AI Overviews by default
  • Tracks 50+ countries daily
  • Analyzes mentions and link citations

Cons:

  • AI Mode, Gemini, and Claude cost extra
  • Lite lacks API and MCP access

Pricing: from $29/mo (15 prompts; $25/mo billed annually); 7-day trial.

What it records: mentions and citations per prompt, country, and day, with AI Overviews as the baseline. Whether to buy the AI Mode add-on is a decision for the first contract, not the second year.

5. Peec AI

Peec AI runs your prompts daily against the models you select, with AI Overviews among six options.

Best for: teams picking which engines matter, with AI Overviews as one chosen model.

Standout: every daily run in Peec AI becomes a full chat you can open, listing mentions, sources, links, citations, and position. Its documentation reports links placed inside the answer's own text separately from cited sources, a line worth checking in any tracker.

Pros:

  • Logs a viewable chat daily
  • Separates in-text links from sources
  • Exports custom CSVs

Cons:

  • AI Overviews fills one of three self-serve model slots
  • Starter covers one country, one project

Pricing: from $95/mo (50 prompts, three models; 15% off annually).

What it records: the conversation itself, kept and clickable. The slot model makes AI Overviews a deliberate choice: the archive is exactly as wide as the three engines picked in month one.

Tier 2: how do rank trackers add AI Overview tracking?

Rank trackers come from the featured-snippet lineage: keyword sets, positions, a SERP-feature column. By April 2025, featured snippets sat beside AI Overviews in only 8.63% of AIO SERPs, nearly four times rarer than before. Google mostly picks one answer box per query; each AI Overview tracker here added a column.

6. Semrush

Semrush is an SEO suite whose Position Tracking flags AI Overviews as a SERP feature.

Best for: SEO teams wanting AI Overview presence in existing rank reports.

Standout: Per Semrush, a domain cited in an AI Overview is recorded in Position Tracking as a #1 ranking, whatever its organic position. A toggle shows rankings with or without AI Overviews. Updates run daily, down to postal code.

Pros:

  • Filters keywords whose AI Overview cites you
  • Tracks AI Mode and ChatGPT Search
  • Exports to Google Sheets and PDF

Cons:

  • Daily history shown 60 days, then weekly points
  • AI Visibility Toolkit extra: $99/mo, 25 prompts, no trial

Pricing: From $139/mo (SEO plan; $117.33/mo billed annually).

What it records: A citation, converted into a position. That's a definition choice, and the 2020 snippet change already showed how fast those shift. The toggle is the useful part: it reports both readings.

7. seoClarity

seoClarity is an enterprise SEO platform that flags AI Overviews across tracked keywords and snapshots each answer.

Best for: Enterprise teams monitoring AI Overviews across large keyword sets.

Standout: Its AI Overviews Tracking module lists tracked keywords showing an AI Overview in a date range and snapshots the AIO content, for two-date comparison. A Research Grid of over half a billion keywords adds the market view.

Pros:

  • Separates mentions from citations against competitors
  • Ties AI Overviews to traffic and CTR
  • Adds AI Mode, ChatGPT, and Claude via ArcAI

Cons:

  • ArcAI checks weekly by default, daily optional
  • Pricing page doesn't name the AIO package

Pricing: Packages from $2,500/mo, sized by domains and keywords.

What it records: The flag and the paragraph behind it. seoClarity says it tracked SGE in Labs for months before AI Overviews rolled out: for SGE-era history, that outweighs a feature list.

Tier 3: what does an AI Overviews index show?

An index samples the market, not your queries. After Gemini 3, 37,870 previously cited domains dropped out and 46,182 new ones appeared, yet only one of the 500 most-cited domains vanished. Churn lives in the tail, yours included, and your own tracked set is where it shows.

8. Ahrefs Brand Radar

Brand Radar is Ahrefs' index of AI answers, built from prompts and the queries that trigger AI Overviews.

Best for: benchmarking AI answer share against competitors.

Standout: Brand Radar keeps two indexes for AI Overviews and AI Mode: one from prompts, one from keywords that trigger Google's AI answer. Ahrefs says it stores every response, with history back to 2025, so benchmarks start with a back catalog.

Pros:

  • Indexes AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot
  • Reports mentions, citations, share of voice
  • Adds daily Custom Prompts with Claude

Cons:

  • AI Visibility Index re-tests monthly, 90-day window
  • Metered checks, with overage

Pricing: Custom Prompts from $50/mo; Index $199/mo.

What it records: The market, re-tested monthly: right for a share-of-voice argument with a competitor. Your own queries, where the Gemini 3 churn landed, need Custom Prompts. Featured-snippet studies did this job a decade ago: context for your own record.

Which AI Overview Tracker Should You Choose?

What changes for practitioners: if your reports must show what Google said, pick an answer-first AI Overview tracker. SE Visible fits teams reporting AI Overviews beside AI Mode and organic overlap, with the unedited answer kept. Rank trackers suit keyword reports; the index suits benchmarking.

AI Mode matters too: Google brought it together with AI Overviews "into one seamless Search experience". That's why the best tools for monitoring AI Overviews keep the answer.

Skip if: you need daily movement on your queries (skip Ahrefs Brand Radar's monthly index) or the answer text later (skip SERP-feature flags).

My forecast, labeled likely: by mid-2027, AI Overviews and AI Mode will share one report line. Check me then.

Run your own query set through SE Visible and see what its record shows. For the SEO side, SE Ranking covers Google and the traditional search engines; together, the two platforms show how your brand performs across search.

AI Overview Tracker FAQ

What is an AI Overview tracker?

An AI Overview tracker records whether Google shows an AI Overview for your queries, what the answer says, which sources it cites, and whether your brand appears, by date and location. Answer-first trackers also store the generated text for later checks.

How do AI Overview trackers tell citations from brand mentions?

A citation is your URL among the AI Overview's links. A mention names your brand in the generated text itself, with or without a link. Answer-first trackers keep that text, so they report both; SERP-feature trackers mostly log the citation.

Is AI Overview tracking the same as SGE tracking?

SGE tracking and AI Overview tracking share one job. SGE was Google's May 2023 Search Labs experiment; AI Overviews replaced it in the US in May 2024. Earlier SGE tracking data came from opt-in Labs results, so comparisons need a caveat.
