Punter Southall Governance Services appoints new client director Claire Barnes

Punter Southall Governance Services (PSGS) is expanding its team with the appointment of actuary and pension governance expert Claire Barnes, as a new client director.

Claire joins PSGS from Barnett Waddingham (BW), where she was a Principal and spent the first 15 years of her career after joining as a graduate actuary. Having qualified as an actuary, she undertook a lengthy secondment working with an in-house administration team for one of the UK’s largest pension schemes. With new skills and experience she moved to the Pension Management team within BW. As a member of the management board, she was a key driver of the team’s growth.

In her new role, Claire will support PSGS clients with a broad range of outsourced and consultancy services from pension scheme management, governance and secretarial, to end game planning, board effectiveness and risk management. She will also play a key role in business development to further expand PSGS’ client portfolio.

Claire said: “I am very excited to join Punter Southall Governance Services – the team stand out for their impressive range of skills and experiences, tailoring solutions to meet their client’s needs. They are also all governance practitioners. Most importantly there is a great workplace culture, as I’m a true believer that happy team equals happy clients!

In the past, I’ve supported large and small schemes with many complex challenges. I look forward to using my expertise to help our clients and further expand the PSGS business.”

Wayne Phelan, PSGS Chief Executive Officer, commented:

“Claire brings many years’ expertise in pensions governance, compliance and risk and new business. She’ll be a real asset to the team.

Claire joins at a time of major regulatory change in pensions and her broad experience will be invaluable in guiding schemes and trustees through the challenges ahead.”

Claire holds a degree in mathematics and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries, an Associate of the PMI and is a PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner.
