- 67% say a companyís environmental policy would influence their choice of employer
- 45% say an environmental policy would help attract them to a job
Employers with a green conscience are more likely to attract high quality candidates according to a survey launched today by jobs.ac.uk, the leading online jobs board for jobs in research, science and academic related professions.
67% of job hunters surveyed said a companyís environmental policy would influence their choice of employer. 45% would be strongly influenced by an employerís environmental policy when considering applying for a job.
With the current global interest in environmental policies highlighted by the recent Bali summit on climate change, Andrew Gordon, director of jobs.ac.uk says the survey results are no surprise: ìGreen issues are high in the public conscience and employers are increasingly expected not only to mitigate against their environmental impact through appropriate green programmes or policies, but to make a tangible, positive contribution to improving the environment.
ìHigh calibre job hunters want to work for an employer who is environmentally responsible, forward thinking and who can offer further opportunities in the future.î
According to the recruitment site, being able to access an organisationís corporate social responsibility programme, charity support or green policy on its website can reveal the company culture and help candidates determine what it might be like to work there.
Andrew Gordon added: ìTalented people are willing to travel further now for their dream job and the competition to attract highly qualified staff is increasing in the research, science and higher education (HE) sectors as they often require specialist skills.[1] Employers are under increasing pressure to compete with other companies to attract the right staff and a companyís green credentials are now an important influencing factor for job hunters.î
Currently over 500,000 people are searching for research, academic and science jobs on jobs.ac.uk every month.
[1] A recent poll on the jobs.ac.uk website of 516 people revealed that 223 (43%) of them were willing to travel 100 or more miles to work each day for their dream job.
