Workers could earn nearly 5,000 a year in unpaid overtime

.

British workers put in 23bn worth of unpaid overtime a year, according to figures from the Trades Union Congress, as reported in PayrollProfessional the magazine of the Institute of Payroll Professionals (IPP).

The organisation has calculated that if employees were paid for all the work they do for nothing they would take home an extra 4,800 a year.

IPP CEO Maurice Cheng said: ìWith ever tighter legislation around working hours coming from Europe, these figures are truly shocking. We would urge employers to reward their staff for the hours that are put in.î
