GCS, the City IT recruitment specialists, was delighted to present the GCS Women in IT Award to the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham last night [7 December 2006] at an event at The Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, London. This Award is part of the British Computer Societyís IT Professional Awards 2006.

Speaking at the Awardsí ceremony, Martin Smith, director of GCS and the presenter of the winnerís trophy, said, ëThe GCS Women in IT Award is designed to encourage more women to enjoy a career in IT and reward the efforts of organisations that have enhanced opportunities for women in IT departments. We had four excellent finalists and it was very hard to choose an outright winner.

ëThe London Borough of Barking and Dagenham demonstrated its focus and commitment to create a strong diverse workforce with excellent opportunities for successful careers in IT for all employees. The Boroughís supportive working environment has also contributed to employees achieving a positive work-life balance.í

A very happy Sarah Bryant accepted the Award on behalf of Barking and Dagenham Council. ëWe are thrilled to be the winners of this Award,í said Ms Bryant. ëIt is a real testament to all the hard work the council has achieved in recognising the individual talents of members of staff. Hopefully, this Award demonstrates what can be accomplished by organisations that set out to include and engage each employee in developing their careers.í

The trophies were presented at an Awards dinner and included the categories of IT Trainer of the Year and the BCS Business Achievement Award. The GCS directors, Martin Smith and Chris Bartlett, are members of the Institute of Directors and the Association of Technology Staffing Companies.
