Temp roles offer valuable insight into working environments

The desire to experience a variety of industries and roles featured high on the list of reasons why individuals choose temp roles

The desire to experience a variety of industries and roles featured high on the list of reasons why individuals choose temp roles, according to the latest Candidate survey by OfficeTeam. The survey showed that of the candidates currently employed in temporary jobs, 19% were actively hoping to experience a variety of different industries and companies in order to identify the perfect type of organization and role for them.1

The other key reason stated by candidates for choosing temping assignments over full-time employment was lifestyle, with a further 19% using temporary employment to fit in with other chosen activities and family life. A quarter of those surveyed stated that the key appeal of temp work was the chance to gain new skills and experience in a number of different roles.

Nicole Gorton, Director, OfficeTeam Sydney echoes the positive findings of the survey.

ìTemping gives candidates a chance to experience a wide variety of roles and industries before making a commitment. If they choose to regularly refresh their surroundings and the role or type of organization they work in, it is also a fantastic long-term option.î

Well over half of the candidates questioned stated that they planned to work in temporary roles in the foreseeable future, and a similar number expected to continue working in a temp role for at least the next 6 to 12 months.

ìThere are obvious long term benefits to temping in terms of flexibility, and also for those new to the workplace, who want to see what is out there before committing.î Nicole said
