London South Bank University has become the first business school in the region to provide professional support and guidance to help develop the management and leadership skills of all their post-graduate management students. This announcement comes in the wake of research published by the Association of Graduate Recruiters which suggests that many graduates entering the job market do not have appropriate skills needed for employment.
Students now have access to career development resources, information and advice through a unique partnership with the Chartered Management Institute. As part of their studies, postgraduate management students from the university also receive membership of the Chartered Management Institute, in a move to join academic study with professional development.
The partnership has been created to ensure that management students are given support while studying for their qualification and have the opportunity to develop skills which they can use at work. Ann Bell, London Regional Manager at the Chartered Management Institute said: ìI am delighted that we are working closely with the university to develop future leaders and give them support and access to all the resources they need to help them further their management careers.î
As members of the Institute, students from London South Bank University also now have access to networking opportunities in their region and leading-edge research which will help them identify routes to career development.
Milo Crummie, Head of Department for HR and Management at London South Bank University, welcomed the partnership and said: All staff working on our management programmes are extremely excited about the opportunities the partnership with the Institute brings to students and to staff. Our students are already commenting on how useful it is to be able to access the Institute databases, CPD resources and journals. These resources bring significant added value to their learning experience.
