CareerXroads releases its 5th Annual Sources of Hire Study, a survey of some of Americaís most competitive organizations designed to discover where they are hiring their employees and how well they are tracking and measuring hires. Together the 24 firms who completed this yearís survey employ 1.1 million employees in the US. Here are some of the key findings.
- A firmís own employees are the most likely source for filling open positions. Of the 188,062 positions survey participants filled last year, 60,265 or 32% were attributed to Internal Movement. More than half of these openings were exempt level positions (53%).
- Building on that point ñ Employee Referrals remain the strongest source of hires accounting for 27% of all hires made by these organizations in 2005.
- And a companyís website is beginning to infiltrate all methods of recruiting ñ respondents attribute nearly half of their hires to the company website.
Arguably the most important finding from this yearís study is the lack of hard numbers. ì48 companies responded but only half that number was able to submit hard numbers for the survey,î notes CareerXroads co-founder Gerry Crispin. ìWe personally contacted each of the 48 firms to confirm their numbers and even with new technologies half couldnít track these data points. The companies that can measure their sources have discovered that sources of hire are an important element in truly understanding Staffing Supply Chains. Not perceptions about what you think they are but the real deal.î As hiring becomes increasingly competitive (and itís worth noting that hiring at these organizations is on an upswing) tracking successful sources of hire takes on even more importance.
Participants in this study include some of Americaís most recognized brands and are very large corporations. With five years of comparisons on this same respondent base this study highlights what is working for employers and where they will be spending their money in 2006. It also offers key information for job seekers trying to determine where to best spend their time looking for their next job.
