The Human Capital Institute (HCI), a professional association and educator in talent management strategies, announced today that Roger Martin, dean of the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, author, and global strategist, will join HCIís inaugural National Human Capital Summit, to be held in Chicago April 6-7.
Day two of the Summit, Martin presents Creativity that Runs Deep: The Design of Business, a session that explores why it is necessary to create elegant, refined products and offer services in imagination-intensive industries in order to effectively compete in the 21st century.
Competing in a global economy requires a major shift in strategy. Successful companies will be those that focus less on volume and more on creative products and services, said Allan Schweyer, HCIís Executive Director. Roger Martin, an expert in global competitiveness, understands that innovation is the new capital for the 21st century.
A recognized leader in the academic community, Roger Martin was appointed to a seven-year term as dean of the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto in 1998 and re-appointed to a further five-year term effective July 2005. He is also a professor of strategic management at the Rotman School.
Martin, a Canadian from Wallenstein, Ontario, researches and writes about global competitiveness, integrative thinking, business design, and corporate citizenship, as well as Canadian competitiveness policy. His articles are featured in the Harvard Business Review, Time, The Globe and Mail, National Post, BusinessWeek Online, and Barronís, among other publications. He is also the author of The Responsibility Virus, a book Malcolm Gladwell has called a triumph.
Roger Martin brings both an academic and a hands-on business perspective to his work. He was formerly a director of Monitor Company, a global strategy consulting firm based in Cambridge, Mass. During his 13 years with Monitor, he founded and chaired Monitor University, the firmís educational arm, served as co-head of the firm for two years, and founded the Canadian office.
