ThoughtWorks Calls For More Female Graduates As It Launches Its Third Bangalore Training Programme

Technology is not ëgeekyí says global IT consultancy

Global IT Consultancy, ThoughtWorks, is aiming to recruit a 50:50 male to female ratio as it takes on its next stream of graduates. Successful applicants will then participate in its unique induction scheme which involves spending four months at the ThoughtWorks ëUniversityí in Bangalore, India. Once there, they will join around 30 other graduates from around the world to learn the very latest programming and analysis skills from the best in the business.

Suzi Edwards, Director of Recruiting at ThoughtWorks, explains: ìThe lack of females in the IT industry is something we want to address and despite the popular perception of IT being full of sandal-wearing, geeky Star Trek enthusiasts, ThoughtWorks isnít. Working in a technology consultancy that embraces Agile programming methods is actually very well suited to females. There are flexible working practices, lots of variety and close collaboration with colleagues. There is a real need to talk to each other, communicate effectively on projects and to translate technology into real world problems.

Edwards continues: ìThe demand for skilled consultants and IT employees globally is rising and we feel that there is a great opportunity for women that shouldnít be missed. The ThoughtWorks University is an ideal starting point for any graduate as it combines practical, hands on training with strong mentoring and role models in a supportive environment.î

ThoughtWorksí Managing Director, Cyndi Mitchell adds, ìLess than 5% of our applicants for last yearís programme were female. This year we are determined to reach out to all of those female graduates who might have rejected the idea of working in a consultancy. We believe that weíre different and would love the opportunity to convince people of that.î

The ThoughtWorks Bangalore University begins in February 2006 and consists of three weeks of intensive class and lab sessions followed by 13 weeks of practical work experience on real, ëliveí projects. For more information about how to apply and the entry requirements, please go to:
