It is released to coincide with forum3, the UKís recruitment and volunteering event for the not-for-profit sector

Specialist recruitment consultancy The Charity People has launched its guide to starting a career in the not-for-profit sector. It is released to coincide with forum3, the UKís recruitment and volunteering event for the not-for-profit sector. The guide outlines the key points to bear in mind when considering a change in career or when starting out in a first role.

The guide covers a range of areas from researching the right role, preparing for interviews and demonstrating the skills that todayís not-for-profit employers want to see in prospective employees.

The Charity People produced the guide to help people interested in a potential career in the not-for-profit sector. It suggests that applicants need to identify the reasons for entering the sector and leverage the skills that they will offer.

Deborah Hockham, project director for forum3, comments:

ìThe not-for-profit sector has changed significantly over the past decade, and has seen a greater interest from people wanting a career in the charity sector. People have become more attracted to the sector, whether itís due to personal choices or because of the commercial skills they want to bring. It is a now a competitive sector ñ itís all about marketing yourself and your abilities and demonstrating your commitment to the sector. So it follows that employers will be looking for candidates who can demonstrate responsibility and knowledge of their work.î

The new guide also advises applicants to find out as much as possible about the organisation they are applying to, and to relate any work experience or other skills to its overall goals.
