TALX Corporation , a provider of payroll-related and human resources services, has launched a special initiative for providing information on how the unemployment insurance system has been affected by Hurricane Katrina and how employers can prepare for claims filed by displaced workers.
ìThe Hurricane Katrina devastation is far-reaching, and many employers need up-to-date unemployment insurance information as it develops,î says Ed Chaffin, president of TALX UC eXpress, the business line dedicated to helping employers manage their unemployment taxes. ìTALX has assembled pertinent disaster and unemployment compensation information and is providing regular updates on our Web site (www.ucexpress.com) for all employers.î
Employers with operations in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida have begun seeing displaced workers applying for unemployment benefits as the state agencies are able to process claims. One unusual complication is that many of these claims will be filed outside the workerís home state depending on their relocation status.
To expedite the processing of unemployment benefits to displaced workers, TALX State Relationship Managers are working with each of the affected state agencies to simplify the job of gathering information for claims. TALX is also working with clients to identify, in advance, workers employed in the impacted areas.
