Maidenhead-based HR services consultancy Bamboo Resourcing is teaming up with leading Personnel, Employment Law and Health & Safety specialist Peninsula to host an informative free seminar for all directors, owner-managers and proprietors in the region.

The seminar, to be held on Tuesday September 20th at the Moor Hall Conference Centre in Cookham from 9:30am, is designed to help local businesses manage the growing tide of Employment and Health & Safety legislation. The increasing number of UK and European-led directives govern key HR issues from discrimination to working time directives, posing a continual challenge for all businesses. The forthcoming seminar is aimed simultaneously at reducing the complexity of the legislation for those affected by it, whilst motivating businesses to confront its significance.

ìHR is similar to insurance, designed to protect a business against potentially threatening eventualities,î explains Bamboo Operations Manager, Karen Green. ìLike insurance, it is vital for businesses to have a good HR strategy in place in case anything goes wrong. Limited budgets and time constraints often mean that this is overlooked ñ an attitude that is costing UK businesses thousands of pounds every year. It is difficult for employers to keep up with continually evolving legislative demands. However, by ignoring this, a business could find itself in serious trouble,î

Legislative developments governing HR issues are certainly increasing in volume. Over the last eight years, over 90 separate pieces of employment legislation have been passed, with over 100,000 applications made to employment tribunals in 2003 alone. In 2004, Health and Safety prosecutions grew by 6%, while corresponding fines rose to an average of 14,000 per successful prosecution. Meanwhile, prosecutions against employers are also increasing, with eleven successful convictions argued during 2004.

ìWorking in conjunction with Peninsula, the Bamboo seminar will attempt to present local businesses with the foundations necessary to combat statistics such as theseî adds Green. ìDespite the difficulties outlined, it is possible for employers to comply with legislative requirements successfully. The seminar will show attendees how they can successfully negotiate this complex legal minefield, safeguarding their future development in the modern business environment.î

Demand for this event is expected to high and it is advised that participants register in advance. To register for the seminar, contact Peninsula on 0161 834 2771 or at events@peninsula-uk.com, quoting seminar number SEM3571.
