Almost 80 percent of workers do not feel that their employer has set out a clear work path for them, according to new research from skills management company InfoBasis.77.5 percent of employees said that their bosses had not outlined a clear path for their career progression, while 70 percent said that they had not been told what skills they would need for their next role, according to an online poll.
ìThe poll suggests that the bulk of firms are failing their employees and themselves,î said Don Taylor, strategic alliances director at InfoBasis. ìEmployees who do not have a clear idea of their progress within a company tend to be more insecure in their jobs and are more likely to leave the company. The move may not be best for them, and theyíre expensive to replace.î
Against this backdrop, just under 60 percent indicated that they are happy in their current role.
ìWorryingly, employers are failing to anticipate their future needs,î said Taylor. ìFirms are missing out on the huge potential of their workforce, who can deliver more, and will be more motivated if they receive training in line with a clear career structure.î
The survey of 100 people was conducted over the Internet in the month of August.
