A recent survey finds 99% of employers believe coaching can deliver tangible benefits to both individuals and organisations. Yet only 52% of employers provide coaching/training to staff affected by change. Representatives from Tesco and United Utilities PLC will explain how coaching has been used to achieve cultural change in their organisations, at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Developmentís (CIPD) Annual Coaching at Work Conference.Jessica Jarvis, Training, Learning and Development Adviser, says, îDelivering business success in todayís fast moving, competitive economy requires a consistent ability to adapt to new challenges and circumstances. This, in turn, can require significant shifts in the behaviours and cultures. Coaching can help organisations develop the adaptive capacity necessary to manage change.î
The CIPD conference session, Using coaching to achieve cultural change, will use the following case studies to demonstrate how coaching can be successfully integrated into the fabric of an organisation and the impact coaching can have on an organisationís culture and people:
John Hoerner, Chief Executive, Clothing and International Sourcing, Tesco ñ will discuss some of the lessons Tesco has learnt through implementing a coaching programme.
Linda Booth, Group HR Director, United Utilities PLC ñ will discuss how United Utilities PLC created a high performance culture through coaching.
Carole Gaskell, Chair of the conference session and founder of Full Potential Group, says, ìCoaching offers employers huge benefits. When working in an open culture ñ where people feel challenged, excited, trusted and where they receive honest feedback, are able to take risks, are rewarded for improvements and know that results are celebrated ñ coaching has the potential to improve performance.
ìCultural change and coaching go hand in hand. Coaching can support cultural change. But coaching also requires a change in culture in order to get employee support.î
