Experts Predict Olympic Job Fever Set to Stampede the UK

The success of winning the bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games brings with it a boost to tourism, the overall economy and of course the generation of thousands of job opportunities

The success of winning the bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games brings with it a boost to tourism, the overall economy and of course the generation of thousands of job opportunities. Leading industry experts are predicting a significant growth in the leisure industry.

When any major sporting event occurs in the UK there is a surge in people seeking out jobs in health & leisure. The worldís number one health & fitness job site, Leisurejobs.com reported a 65% surge in demand from those seeking a job as a tennis coach during the two weeks of Wimbledon this year, and the 2012 games will be no exception to the rule. It is predicted to create well over 150,000 jobs in many different areas including hospitality and house building, but it will also create popularity for jobs in leisure. Leading industry experts predict a stampede:

Former Olympic gold medallist Daley Thompson says, ìSomething as huge as the Olympics simply puts health and fitness front of mind. With an alarming increase in childhood obesity, it can only be a positive move to glamorise sport. We need our children to take more of an interest in keeping fit and this is a great way of making sport ëcoolí, appealing and more accessible to the masses.î

Marc Moreso, MD of Leisurejobs.com, comments, ìOn the day the bid was announced our job board was swamped with over 4,500 enquiries about jobs relating to the Olympics. We predict that our on-line job board will be inundated with CVís from budding sportsmen who fancy changing a hobby into their profession. We expect a 70% rise in job applications and will be ready to deal with this surge, with a team of advisors in place to help guide those who require further qualifications and experience.

Marc continues, ìLeisurejobs.com has a history of working in close partnership with sports governing bodies including Sport England, The Lawn Tennis Association and the FIA and aim to continue working with Sport England, the governing body controlling the London Olympics, to help provide jobs for the 2012 games.î

The games will also have a knock on effect on the UK leisure industry as a whole, creating a more glamorised trend for keeping fit. Scott Lloyd, MD Next Generation Clubs and the recently acquired Chelsea Harbour Club says, ìThe leisure industry has already seen a 50% hike in growth over the last decade* and The Games is sure to boost this market even more. We anticipate our current club members will use our facilities more frequently and certainly expect to see a rise in new memberships.î
