Hottest time of the year no fun for disgrunted office workers

UK workers could be getting hot under the collar from this Friday

UK workers could be getting hot under the collar from this Friday. With the impending heat wave and possibility of the hottest day on record predicted later this week, Totaljobs.com, one of the UKís leading recruitment web sites, is calling on employers to make work more bearable for staff in scorching temperatures. Although there is a clear legal minimum temperature of 16*C for offices, there is currently no upper limit, which can cause extreme discomfort for workers on days when the mercury rises to levels of 32*C and above.

Totaljobs.com has suggested ten tips for employers to avoid workplace meltdown:

1. Portable air conditioning units
2. Early finish
3. Company funded picnic at lunch time
4. Outdoor meetings
5. Complimentary cool drinks/ice creams
6. Relaxed dress code
7. Work from home
8. Afternoon siesta
9. Cooling sprays for each employee
10. íSun-dayí - day off in lieu for those having to work on hottest day of the year

Sophie Relf, head of marketing for totaljobs.com says; The hot weather is welcomed by most of us on our days off, but high temperatures in the office are a different matter. It is incredible that although it is illegal to transport cattle at temperatures above 37 degrees C there is no upper limit for those of us at work. Responsible employers should do everything possible to ease conditions for staff - cooling down hot tempers and keeping motivation levels high. Totaljobs.com is offering 2,500 worth of free job postings* on its website to the employer that invents the most original way of cooling down employees.
