Scots jobseekers choose quality of life over cash

.

Summary
* 1/3 of Scots employees would take a salary cut to reduce working hours

* Over 50% of respondents unhappy with current employersí flexibly working practices

* Of those surveyed sixty percent are looking for a job to provide a better work-life balance

A third of Scots employees would take a salary cut in order to reduce their working hours, according to new research by ScottishJobs.com.

Far outweighing jobseekersí cash concerns was the need for more flexible working conditions, an area where over 50% of respondents were dissatisfied with their current employers.

The survey by Scotlandís leading independent recruitment website also revealed that 60% of workers were currently looking for a job to provide a better balance between their working and personal lives.

ScottishJobs.com sales director Karen Ronald says: ìSalary is no longer the prime motivator in finding a new job that it once was. People are far more concerned with the overall package that a prospective employer has on offer to ensure a good work-life balance. ScottishJobs.com continually works to uncover recruitment market trends to help match the needs and concerns of employers and jobseekers alike.î

ScottishJobs.com, which receives over 70,000 unique visits from jobseekers each month, found that over 30% of those surveyed consider their daily commute to negatively impact their quality of life, while one quarter were concerned with finding suitable and affordable childcare.

Forty-eight percent did not believe they have currently achieved a good balance between their working and personal lives.

Damian Routley, account director with leading London-based recruitment communications consultancy Enhance Media, agrees saying: ìThe working community are increasingly looking for more than remuneration from employers. This has led to companies taking a more proactive approach to HR, corporate governance and environmental issues that affect their employeesí working lives like Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Advancements in technology including broadband accessibility have also helped to support the idea of flexible working options and working from home, thereby reducing time spent at the office.î
