As we all prepare to take our summer holidays a survey by high street recruitment agency, Spring Personnel, reveals that over the holiday period office workers are asked to pick up the slack when colleagues take their 2 week break. 77% of organisations questioned responded that they rely on office workers to oversee other colleaguesí roles whilst they are on annual leave. In turn 33% of respondents admitted seeing a reduction in office productivity during this period.
John Simmonds, managing director of Spring Personnel, commented: ì It is surprising that only 23% of companies use temporary staff to cover departmental holiday leave. In a time when we strive for a better work/life balance it is unnecessary to put this type of added pressure on a department or individual.î
There are 1.4 million temporary workers registered with recruitment agencies across the UK. For many, especially graduates just leaving University or college, temping is the ideal way to gain experience. A temporary graduate placement this summer is not only the worthwhile way to offer support to a keen and eager-to-learn individual, but also takes the pressure off other office workers, allowing them to focus on their own role.
