A candidate survey carried out by Tact Personnel, Exeterís local recruitment agency, has found that holiday entitlement is a deciding factor for applicants when applying to prospective employers. Applicants are reluctant to reduce their holiday entitlement when moving employer.
Tact questioned a number of employers in the Exeter area to find out what entitlements are on offer locally. More than half (55%) offered 20 days annual leave days a year, followed by 16% offering 25 days. None offered 26 days as a standard holiday entitlement.
When questioned on length of service after which entitlement increases 56% offered no length of service rise. The remainder offered an increase of between 1-5 extra days dependant upon length of service, the majority of companies increasing to 25 days holiday p.a. Only 5 % of employees have to use bank holidays as part of the annual leave entitlement, with 9% of respondents expecting staff to use proportion (3-7 days) of their entitlement over the Christmas period.
Louise Kane, Tact Personnel business manager, said of the survey:
ìEmployers should consider the annual entitlement package as a key element of attracting the right staff. Money matters, but an attractive benefits package can make a great difference.î
