New Interim Provider Launches in the Wake of Big Four Closures

A new interim management provider aiming to become a leading player in its market formally launches this week

kmc interim executive is a sister organisation to recruitment consultants kmc international. The launch coincides with the arrival of two key people from KPMG ñ the last of the ëBig Fourí consultancies to exit from the sector.

David Cope and Satish Mathur join kmc interim managing director David Harris. Both held leading roles with the former interim management division of KPMG.

Mr Harris, one of the UKís most experienced interim providers, went to kmc in late 2004 to create the new company and has been building the framework in preparation for the launch.

ìWeíre delighted to welcome David and Satish on board,î he said. ìTheir appointment means we have a cohesive team with an exceptionally strong depth and breadth of senior management and functional experience in the private and public sectors. Both have also worked as interim directors themselves so fully understand all aspects of the role.

ìIt enhances what is already our large network of talent in the UK and overseas from which to source the most appropriate interim manager for the job.î

David Cope, a chartered accountant and MBA, has over 13 yearsí experience in interim management and consultancy, specialising in company turnarounds. His earlier career included eight years with ICI and senior managerial positions overseas.

Satish Mathur, also a chartered accountant, has a background in large multinationals including BP and Unilever and was chief financial officer for Inchcape in the US for four years. He has particular experience of public sector interim management assignments, especially health-related.

While the Big Four management consultancies have moved away from executive recruitment provision, David Harris sees the relationship strengthening between interim management and search and selection companies. Within a decade, he forecasts that all the UKís leading interim management consultancies will be part of mainstream executive recruitment providers.

ìThere are obvious synergies with executive recruitment, but the main difference is speed of judgement. The key to our success in interim management is in our ability to take an invariably short and complex brief at short notice, rapidly assess what is needed, find and deliver the right executive, and bring about quality solutions and successful outcomes.î

The market for interim management has also changed since its initial application in the UK some 20 years ago. Mr Harris says there has been a move away from using it to ëplug gapsí during illness or other absences; today it is more frequently employed to help companies and other bodies handle organisational change, necessitated by the ever-increasing rate of technological and market development.

kmc interim has offices in Old Park Lane, London W1 and in Cardiff.
