Working nine ëtil five ñ thatís a luxury!

A recent online survey by specialist financial recruiter FSS has revealed over three quarters of finance professionals (76%) expect to work over 35 hours a week. This is evidence that despite the work-life balance ethic we hear so much about, longer working hours have become the norm in the UK.

29% said that they would be prepared to work over 45 hours with an unhealthy 13% stating that they would be prepared to put in over 56 hours. ìWith the average working week now lasting 39.5 hours, we are finding that candidates still have to be prepared and are expected to put in more time at the office,î said Sarah Williams, Associate Director at FSS.

However, a change could be in store, with a quarter of respondents stating they would leave their current job if they had to work over 35 hours. ìAs we are still experiencing a real war for talent for the best people, those companies able to offer more flexible hours may have themselves a competitive advantage.î
