Why did the ten colleagues go up the mountain?

On Friday 8th June, ten colleagues from Martin Ward Anderson embarked on a five-day trek up Jbel Toubkal, a 4167m mountain (the highest in the Atlas range in southwest Morocco), in aid of Cancer Research UK.

The trekking ten were selected from over 30 volunteers from Martin Ward Andersonís UK and Netherlands network of offices in January 2007, when the company unveiled its first charity challenge.

The trek is just one of the activities the company has participated in as it aims to raise over 20,000 for chosen charity, Cancer Research UK throughout 2007.

The charity was selected from seven possible good causes, all nominated by employees at the beginning of the year.

The money raised by these intrepid trekkers and their colleagues will make a great difference to the work of Cancer Research UK and we are very grateful for their dedication and enthusiasmî.

Fundraising to date has seen an impressive 11,328 raised by the trekking ten. Martin Ward Anderson has also committed to matching sponsorship up to 10,000, as the trekkers reach their personal fundraising target of 1000 each.

Richard Wright, CEO and trekker says: ìThis was a bigger challenge than any of us had imagined however despite the innumerable scree slopes and the massive boulder fields we made the summit as a team. I am pleased and very proud to have been a part of a group who showed great dedication and commitment. Iím also delighted we have raised a huge amount for Cancer Research UK, with more to follow.î

In addition to the trek, all employees within the company have got involved in various charity fundraising events, such as a brewery tour, pub quiz nights and wine challenges.
