What the Credit Crunch Means to Job Hunting Undergraduates

.

Bright Futures – the national student organisation which prepares students to succeed in the world of work – has found from a recent survey that 75% of students are less optimistic about securing their graduate job, and as a result an extra one-third are more likely to defer their job hunting and take a year off.

However, there is some good news for employers, as 40% of finalists are applying to jobs earlier than they normally would and 40% of students are looking at other sectors and industries for their graduate job, which is especially good for those organisations who struggle to find quality applicants.

Unsurprisingly, 65% of students expect to take a lower salary than expected but most worryingly of all is that 85% do not expect the economy to start growing again until 2010 and beyond.

Concerns also remain about the global economic slowdown and when assigning responsibility for it only 25% blame the government, whereas half believe it is was caused by ëgreedí.
