Up to 500 available to SMEs through new Payroll Giving initiative

Charities Aid Foundation is delighted to support the Governmentís Payroll Giving Grants Programme which is being launched today

CAF (Charities Aid Foundation), the not-for profit organisation committed to effective giving, is delighted to support the Governmentís Payroll Giving Grants Programme which is being launched today.

CAF manages the UKís leading payroll giving scheme Give As You Earn and last year alone, UK employees made tax-free charitable donations through their pay worth 90 million, 60 million of which was donated through CAFís Give As You Earn Scheme.

The Governmentís new incentive, which will hopefully boost these figures, will reward companies with fewer than 500 employees with a grant of up to 500 for setting up a payroll giving scheme for the first time. In addition to this they will also match the first 10 donated by each employee every month for the first consecutive six months.

Engaging in payroll giving provides companies with a great way to support their employeesí contribution to charity. CAFís scheme, Give As You Earn is simple and easy to set up with minimal administration required, which makes it the obvious choice for smaller organisations wanting to support their employeesí tax-efficient giving whilst benefiting from the knowledge that they are generating vital income for charities.

Jenny Byers, CAFís Executive Director of Donor Services commenting on the Government initiative:

CAF has always advocated payroll giving as one of the most effective ways for companies to support the regular, tax-efficient giving of their employees and although many of the larger companies are signed up, there is still huge potential for smaller companies to offer this benefit to their staff.

We welcome the Governmentís initiative and will support SMEs as much as possible to ensure they make full use of the grant available to them.
