Teacher Jobsite Joins Campaign to Bridge Digital Divide

At least 1 in 4 schoolchildren in the UK today lack home access to ICT (a computer and the Internet) for their studies.

Eteach.com has announced its support for EQUITY (Equal Opportunities in IT For Young People), a nationwide campaign developed to eliminate the educational disadvantage the digital divide is creating for over 2 million schoolchildren in the UK today.

Eteach, the teacher recruitment service, is the first port of call for teachers looking for a new post and for schools wanting to advertise their vacancies. With information about the campaign provided on www.eteach.com, the websiteís immense popularity and over 270,000 members will provide important exposure.

Valerie Thompson, CEO of the e-Learning Foundation, comments: ìI am delighted to welcome Eteach as an Approved Campaigner of our recently launched campaign, EQUITY, to fight the digital divide. Their assistance in getting the message out to schools and many other related organisations will be invaluable.î

Paul Howells, CEO of Eteach, explains ëWe will enable campaign organisers to promote the cause via a link to the over 400,000 visitors we receive on our site every month. Plus our e-newsletter will include regular updates on the campaign going to over 100,000 teachers each month. It is a pleasure to be part of such an important campaign which seeks to help children who have no access to ICT at home. I am delighted to be able to assist in this small way.í

The EQUITY campaign aims to ensure that every school is made aware of what steps it can take to address the digital divide as it affects local children and provides a range of opportunities for ICT suppliers, government agencies, charities and other organisations to make a contribution.
