Leeds-based Sky Betting and Gaming invests in an innovative approach to recruitment by calling upon its 600-strong team to help bring new recruits into the business.
An internal hire-a-thon event was held on 29 January 2015 which saw existing employees tap up industry contacts in a bid to fill the 90 vacancies that are currently available at Sky Betting and Gaming’s head office on Wellington Place.
The day brought the entire business together to down tools from their day jobs, enjoy a laid on lunch and actively spend time reviewing their professional connections to establish if any of them would be suitable for a role at Sky Betting and Gaming. It was a triumph with 10 CV’s landing within eight minutes of the Hire-a-thon and by the end of the event in excess of 100 potential recruits had submitted their details for consideration.
Due to the rapid expansion of Sky Bet over the last 12 months the new positions have been created in a range of departments across the business, including technology, product development, marketing and customer service.
Following the recent announcement that Sky Betting and Gaming is to become an independent company, in a deal which values to business at £800million, the team is now on the lookout to recruit a host of new talent.
Richard Flint, managing director at Sky Betting and Gaming, said: “Our hire-a-thon is a very niche method of finding potential candidates for the 90 roles currently available here at Sky Betting and Gaming.
“It’s really important to me that we involve our team in developing the future of the company. We felt the hire-a-thon would be a great way for the business to come together to actively identifying people that may be interested in our roles using our team’s insider knowledge and existing connections.
“The event was a great success and our talent team is currently trawling through a host of applications. It’s worth noting though that it’s not too late to apply and interested candidates should contact us asap.
“We do everything we can to create an environment that delivers job satisfaction and fulfilment, while also nurturing talent within our team, making Sky Betting and Gaming one of the best places to work in Yorkshire. As one of the region’s leading employers, we feel passionate about investing in Yorkshire as our business continues to grow.”
To thank employees for their time and support in identifying new recruits financial incentives were in place to recognise those who successfully help fill the new positions.
