One of the largest volunteer initiatives ever undertaken to support athletics in Scotland has been entrusted to leading independent recruitment website ScottishJobs.com as Glasgow prepares to host the Special Olympics Summer Games for the first time in July 2005.
Named as the official supplier to Special Olympics Great Britain (SOGB), Glasgow headquartered ScottishJobs.com will be working closely with the local City Council and Games Committee to deliver the over 1,500 volunteers required to help organise and run the event.

First established in 1978, this year marks the 7th Special Olympics National Games where over 2,500 athletes will compete from 2nd to 8th July in twenty-three events involving 11 venues in and around the City of Glasgow.
ScottishJobs.com has created a dedicated position on their website for Games volunteers providing information and assistance on how to get involved. Roles and responsibilities range from officiating, transportation, accommodation, food services, information services and even entertainment.
This is a massive logistical and administrative undertaking which involves housing, feeding and transporting over 5,500 athletes, families and supporters for eight days as well as ensuring the smooth function of each event. Volunteers able to donate a small portion of their time from 2nd to 8th July are asked to log on to ScottishJobs.com or visit www.specialolympicsglasgow.com.
Special Olympics Great Britain (SOGB), which occurs every four years, was borne from the international Special Olympics programme founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, sister of former American President John F Kennedy, in 1968.
