UK recruitment at the Building and Facilities Services division of FTSE listed international project management and services company, AMEC, is set for a shake-up with the appointment of its first recruitment managed service provider, Resourcing Solutions, the recruiting expert for the infrastructure, engineering and construction sectors.
A key provider of services to major national infrastructure projects including Heathrow Terminal 5, Tag Mclaren Technology Centre, and various private finance initiatives, AMEC employs 17,000 people across the UK. AMEC is facing increased demand on its HR functions as its business continues to expand and the Building and Facilities division alone is expecting to hire an additional 300 people each year over the next 3 years. AMEC enjoys low rates of staff turnover which are under 10%, however each year the division needs to fill approximately 200 vacancies through to natural churn and Resourcing Solutions will also manage this requirement.
Until now recruitment has been managed internally by the divisionís HR team which has led the decision to engage support to oversee the recruitment function. Neil Gates, HR Director, Building Services and Facilities Management at AMEC said: ìAMEC has a period of immense activity in the pipeline, however the months and years ahead could prove to be extremely difficult if we cannot resource to meet our project delivery plans. We have chosen to appoint Resourcing Solutions as we know that they understand and can help us manage the people issues facing our business. Their extensive knowledge of the engineering sector and a proven ability in sourcing the individuals with the specific skills we need will play a critical role in helping us meet the exciting times in front of us.î
Resourcing Solutionsí Managed Service Progamme (MSP) will manage the entire recruitment lifecycle and its team is currently devising a strategic recruitment plan for the division. It will oversee activities including advertising, application management, and initial interview process as well as pre-appointment assessment and managing the recruitment supply chain.
The appointment of Resourcing Solutions will require the specialist consultancy to do more than simply operate recruitment activity. Nicola Flux, Sales Director, Resourcing Solutions, explained: Our ultimate remit is to deliver the scarce skills required by AMEC to fulfil its committed schedule of works. With enormous projects very much in the public eye and a need to attract large numbers of individuals with rare skill sets, AMEC must tightly manage the delivery, commercial and reputation risks inherently associated with failure to appropriately resource, and our role is very much geared to helping them do this.
ìWhilst of course we will be looking to achieve appropriate efficiencies across the recruitment process, the true value of our MSP for AMEC lays in our expert understanding of their market and our ability to source and attract scarce talent, not simply driving down costs. This knowledge allows us to effectively plan resourcing and attraction strategies, successfully manage the recruitment supply-chain and positively position the company as an employer of choice.î
