The Discrimination Law Review announced today offers a comprehensive review of equalities legislation.
Commenting on this review, Tom Hadley, the Recruitment and Employment Confederationís Director of External Relations, said: ìThe Government is right to try to simplify anti-discrimination law but a consultation document which runs into 190 pages is likely to scare businesses. Recent research from Demos highlighted the role recruiters can play in helping companies to diversify their workforces whilst remaining the right side of the law.î
The REC also calls on the Government not to get caught up with legal changes to the detriment of delivery on diversity. Tom Hadley continued: ìDecades of anti-discrimination laws have not delivered completely diverse workforces. The Government as well as businesses, trade bodies and individuals should all consider how to become more pro-active in this area.î
To this end, the REC has launched a Diversity Assured Recruitment service for recruitment agencies to ensure they are getting the very best candidates from the communities in which they are based.
