Organisations are failing to measure the success of HR processes

46% of organisations still do not measure the success of their HR processes according to research by online assessment specialist PSL.

PSL carried out research with organisations to investigate where HR departments saw their focus 12 months from now.

ìThere is a growing pressure on the HR function to be able to demonstrate the ëadded valueí that it is capable of delivering,î said Dave Millner, Director of Consultancy at PSL. ìIt is critical that HR can demonstrate tangible results and express its contribution to the organisation in hard business terms.î

Return on investment in HR is not just the latest business catchphrase ñ it has become a real business imperative. ìHR, like any other function, needs to be able to articulate what processes it is responsible for, how much the processes cost, how effectively they are managed and what impact they have on the bottom line,î said Dave Millner.

Just 8% of the organisations surveyed said that financial results from their HR processes was a key HR focus over the next 12 months. ìTo be able to implement people processes effectively HR needs to become more metric orientated to be able to measure the success of what it is implementing, so that it can show a direct link to an organisationís business strategy,î said Dave Millner. ìLike most support functions within an organisation HR has to prove its worth, and measurement systems and processes are critical to being able to demonstrate this. Without data or robust measures of success, perception and opinions are the only way that HRís performance is going to be regarded ñ and this is insufficient in todayís world.î

The survey also revealed that talent management continues to be a key business priority. ì67% of the organisations surveyed listed talent management as a key focus for the next 12 months,î said Dave Millner. ìIt is important that organisations have talent management strategies that identify, involve and engage with those individuals who can fulfil the demands of tomorrowís future leadership or business critical roles that are crucial to the success of an organisation.î
