Ms Paula Reed, Managing Director of www.alphaexecutivejobs.com the international job board for executives, managers and professionals speaking today said, ìJob Seekers are complaining that there is a growing number of employers who are not bothering to send a response to job applications. If this is true then itís very sad because it was always a common courtesy to send a ëthank you for your interest letterí and it very often included a statement saying, if you havenít heard from us within the next 10 days, please take it that your application has been unsuccessfulî.
Ms Reed continued. ìTo use the excuse that because there are now hundreds of applications for a single vacancy, a company doesnít have the resources to respond to everyone, is simply not acceptable. With modern day communications there is no excuse for not responding and besides, itís bad PR because when the market does turn, these rejected applicants will probably remember the treatment they received and may well have told their friends and colleagues of the experienceî
Reed went on, ìIt used to be said that as many as 10% of companies donít bother to send acknowledgements. I donít know how true that is and maybe it is a bigger percentage in todayís market, but itís tough enough as it is without a jobseeker having to suffer this further frustration. On another note, said Ms Reed, Weíve still got a highly competitive job market, but unemployment is slowing and weíre seeing a steady increase in the number of new jobs on Alphaî.
Not The Lack of Jobs – The Lack of Courtesy
