- 800 full time graduate and intern vacancies in London now open
- Applications to the firm already up 112% on last year
- London offers the majority of the firm’s consulting and financial advisory vacancies
- 50% of PwC’s 2011 graduate intake will be based in the capital
There are signs that confidence is returning to the graduate job market as over 8,000 students and graduates have applied for graduate and intern vacancies in the first eight weeks of the 2011 recruitment process. This represents a 117% increase on application levels for the same period last year.
Richard Irwin, head of student recruitment, said:
“These levels of interest are a promising start to our new recruitment programme, and in part reflect early signs of confidence in the job market returning amongst students. Record attendance at our campus events suggests that there’s a much stronger determination amongst students to get a job or experience as early as possible.
“Interestingly, 47% of students who recently attended our campus reception evenings said they want to work in London after graduation. With the financial services sector waking up in the capital after the slower years of recruitment during the recession, we have to work harder than ever to help talented students understand why PwC is the right choice for them.”
PwC, the UK’s leading professional services firm, opened its 2011 recruitment for nearly 800 London graduate and intern positions in early October, including 600 graduate and A Level positions. Some 250 of the 300 advisory positions and half of the firm’s 150 full time tax vacancies will be based in the capital.
London has 200 internships and work placements available reflecting the firm’s stronger emphasis on identifying and attracting the best talent early on.
The recruitment campaign will again provide expert advice to students and graduates facing a tough job market. The firm offers employability skills coaching and tools online, and PwC’s recruitment team will visit around 30 university campuses around the country, including UCL, LSE and Imperial, as well as events at the firm’s city and major regional offices throughout the year.
Overall, the firm will recruit over 1,200 full time graduate and student positions nationally in 2011, plus 400 interns and placements and around 70 A Level students. In total, over 1600 roles have been created, representing the highest ever recruitment levels on record for the firm. Full time roles and internships increased by 100 positions each.
