The Two Hour Initiative
A lot can happen in two hours; you could go round the circle line twice, fly to Barcelona or watch four episodes of friends.
Alternatively, you could help shape the entrepreneurs of tomorrow.
Dan McGuire, Managing Director of advert distribution and response tracking company Broadbean Technology and Young Entrepreneur of the Year, is calling for individuals and companies to join in a new scheme to encourage young people into business.
The Two Hour Initiative, which has already received vast support from the business community, has been created to make social responsibility simple for busy business people.
Volunteers are just asked to spend two hours a calendar quarter working with youngsters and the scheme provides details of various programmes that companies and individuals can get involved with.
Dan McGuire, recently listed as one of the most outstanding young entrepreneurs in the UK in Growing Business Magazineís ìYoung Gunsî, is thrilled with the interest that the initiative has received.
He says ìThe response Iíve had to Two Hour, so far, shows that that people really do want to make a difference. We have an opportunity to make business real, exciting and accessible option to young people, rather than just another subject learned from a text book. Motivating the next generation of entrepreneurs is vital in ensuring Britain remains and economic world leader.î
Dan McGuire has worked in recruitment since he was 18 years old and believes it is a very entrepreneurial industry.
Colin Minto, Managing Director, Recruitment Technology Solutions, Brainhunter UK Ltd joined the Two Hour Initiative and has already made a start. He says, ìI went to Catford High School in Lewisham yesterday and got the chance to speak to hundreds of secondary school pupils about how I succeeded in business; seeing their interest and hearing their questions proved to me just how much each of us can make a difference.î
Research by Broadbean Technology, showed that two thirds of young people were interested in starting their own business but had reservations because they have had no guidance on where to start.
McGuire comments, ìIíve been working closely with Young Enterprise for a few years and the reaction from the youngsters I speak to is always very positive; kids that never thought business was an option for them suddenly realise that anything is possible. There are so many programmes aimed at all different age groups and they all make learning about business fun for the young people involved. The more volunteers we get, the more kids we will reach. î
As well as volunteers McGuire is also looking for individuals or businesses who are interested in setting up local chapters of The Two Hour Initiative.
