Research indicates that organisations undergo major change approximately once every three years, whilst smaller changes occur almost continually. Yet over 40% of reorganisations fail to meet their objectives. In response to this kind of management challenge, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has developed a Certificate in the Psychology of Management. This will enable those involved in the management of people to understand employee behaviour and help them suggest alternative and practical ways of achieving change.Vanessa Robinson, CIPD Organisation and Resourcing Adviser, says, ìExploring change and other management challenges by drawing on psychological research will help managers to understand individualís behaviour better. This will help in communicating the change and help gain employee trust and commitment, both during and after implementation.î
The programme looks at all aspects of management and calls upon the expertise of leading Chartered Occupational Psychologists with experience in training and developing managers.
The CIPD are holding an open evening for prospective students of the Certificate in the Psychology of Management, on 7 September.
The open evening will allow interested individuals to talk to tutors and past students and discover how the programme can be applied to some of the workplaceís most challenging situations. Guests are encouraged to bring their managers or work colleagues with them so that they gain a more thorough understanding of what the certificate students will learn.
Past student, Mel Owers, says, ìI found the certificate programme to be both an enjoyable and rewarding learning experience, meeting the need to integrate psychological theory with HR best practice. The flexible style of learning and choice of modules has enabled me to add real value to live business issues.î
