beCogent launches new scheme for wellbeing of employees

Kilmarnock-based contact centre beCogent has launched a new health & wellbeing initiative for the benefit of staff

Kilmarnock-based contact centre beCogent has launched a new health & wellbeing initiative for the benefit of staff.

The company, which was recently voted ìEmployer of the Yearî at the National Business Awards for Scotland 2006, has introduced a new fully funded Occupational Health Service.

beCogent, which employs over 2,000 staff across three centres in Kilmarnock, Airdrie and Erskine, set up the scheme as an ongoing commitment to the health and wellbeing of its employees.

ìAs a major employer in West Central Scotland we have a high degree of social responsibility and commitment to the local areas within which we are based.î said Jackie Lowe, beCogentís Director of HR.

ìThe welfare of our staff and maintaining high levels of employee satisfaction is a key priority within beCogent. It makes sound business sense too as healthy staff are more highly motivated and generally happier. We firmly believe that putting the employee-customer relationship at the forefront of their thinking will produce the best resultsî added Lowe.

The Occupational Health Service offers staff a suite of medical and lifestyle support activities including scheduled appointments, a drop in clinic, work-based health promotions, cholesterol and blood pressure checks and so on.

These services are part of a whole package of staff lifestyle benefits provided by beCogent including a very active social club, free fruit, discounted health club membership, subsidised caf, free masseuse service, beauty treatments and a Bowen therapist.

All of beCogentís efforts have led to the company achieving a bronze Scotlandís Health at Work award. These awards recognise employers who demonstrate commitment to improving the health and ultimately the performance of their workforce.

Lowe added: ìWe want our staff to see their workplace as an extension of their home life. These additional staff support services reinforce the commitment of beCogent to our people and support a healthy work-life balance.î
