PiR Interims, the life science Interims practice of the PiR Group, held their inaugural Interims event at the Felix Hotel in Cambridge last Thursday.
PiR Interims, initiated by Managing Director Carolyn Douthwaite, has had tremendous success since its launch in 2005. As the demand for professional interims grows within the life-science sector, so too has the need for PiRís highly qualified team of experienced Interims.
At the event yesterday, PiR Interims gathered together thirty of their expert interim managers and hosted an informal networking evening. The evening gave practised and new interim professionals alike the opportunity to mix and share experiences, along with the opportunity to gain advice from PiRís Associates. Ian Greenwood, PiRís Accountant, offered updates on the contractual and financial issues that impact interims. Ian said, IR35 will be revisited by HM Revenue & Customs. Working with professionals dedicated to the interims industry, such as PiR, should give the interim consultants the support that they need to avoid the pitfalls.
Carolyn commented: ì2007 has been an excellent year for the Interim practice and, thanks to a fantastic team effort, we are well ahead with our plans for the year. This event gave us the opportunity to thank our loyal team of active interims for all their excellent work on behalf of client companies. It also encouraged experienced Interims to informally share knowledge and best practice with those new to the world of portfolio working. Interim recruitment is growing rapidly within the life-science sector and we are delighted to be able to offer a tailored service to both our clients and candidates.î
Interim Manager, Sue Batten, said ìI think the thing that helped me most on Thursday evening was that it showed me that I am not working in a vacuum. There are others out there! They are all people, just like me, with the same doubts that I had at the beginning, and the same growth in confidence that I am experiencing now, after less than a yearís practice. Itís great to know that there is a network, and you can pick up the phone for a chat if you want to.î
Rob Tilson, who has over ten yearís experience as an Interim, said ìIn a sector where there are many so called interim practices, interims themselves have to be discriminating as to which ones they commit to. Events such as these show that PIR are committed to long-term relationships with each of their interims which go beyond many of their competitors.î
This event is the first in a series planned for the year ahead and to bring together Interim Managers based around the UK. The first client event will be held in November 2007. Carolyn hopes that these will prove an interesting and entertaining way of learning more about this evolving and exciting approach to work.
