A 300% increase in business in South East Asia is providing Andrew Urquhart, a recruiter at Orion Group, with the career move of a lifetime, as he relocates to Singapore, in his new role as business development manager for South East Asia and Australia.
Steve Davison, divisional director of Scotlandís leading recruitment agency, said: ìSouth East Asia, in particular Singapore, is a hive of commercial activity. The financial, ship building and petrochemical sectors are expanding rapidly and there is a constant need to provide high quality staff for long and short term projects. Our Singapore office works on a number of bluechip clients including Bovis Lendlease, Mcdermottís and Tanker Pacific. Andrewís job will be to oversee these accounts as well as drive the business forward into new sectors.î
Andrew, 32, from Culduthel in Inverness will move with his wife Carrie and young son Samuel in May. He joined Orion Group in January 2007, following a stint in wholesaling. Andrew commented: ìIíve always been a keen traveller and now to be given the opportunity to work in one of the worldís most dynamic cities is a dream come true. As a family we are looking forward to the change in lifestyle and the warmer climate, but above all Iím excited about the challenge of driving the business forward in another country.î
With over 250 staff across 29 worldwide offices, Orion Group prides itself in staff development and training. All recruiters joining the business are given a company induction and go through a work shadowing programme for the first few months. The company also runs an in-house recruitment and adapt course, where staff learn the processes and technology used. Recruiters are then given the opportunity to work towards their MREC Qualification, recognised by the recruitment and employment confederation.
Steve Davison said: ìAndrew is a classic example of a motivated, self-starter who has quickly progressed up the career ladder. Heís only been with the company for 15 months but we put him through an intensive training programme and mentoring scheme which has allowed him to move onto a promoted position in a very short space of time.
ìWorking in the recruitment business, you recognise how vital it is to nurture and encourage staff as they are the future of the company. Itís also crucial to give them the opportunity to develop their career and move up the ladder. We want our staff to feel they are an important part of the business and that everybody contributes to its success.î
