Job hunters widen their vocabulary with my word coach at Reed Employment

Recruitment specialist, Reed Employment, has launched a new initiative to help improve the vocabulary of job hunters

Recruitment specialist, Reed Employment, has launched a new initiative to help improve the vocabulary of job hunters. From today, jobseekers at selected Reed branches will be brushing up their language skills with the self-improvement title, My Word Coach for the Nintendo DS.

Janine Parry, Head of Marketing for Reed Employment explains why they have taken this innovative approach to helping jobseekers, ìEmployers expect good written and verbal skills from all their employees. We are introducing this innovative new language skills training to help jobseekers to present themselves better in CVs, cover letters and interviews, ensuring their language skills do not let them down. There is no greater turn off for employers than grammatical errors and poor spelling in CVs and unfortunately, it is all too common.î

ìWe also want to help the increasing number of migrant workers who are looking for office jobs. According to the latest report from the Home Office published in November, more than 750,000 migrant workers arrived in the UK in the last three years. Improving their written and verbal communication skills will help them secure decent well paid jobs. In addition, providing training through My Word Coach makes learning fun and accessible for everyone. Weíve found that the title is a great tool in helping jobseekers expand their vocabulary and prepare well for interviews,î she added.

Jon Rosenblatt, Marketing Director at developers, Ubisoft comments on the partnership: ìMy Word Coach was developed in conjunction with leading linguist Tom Cobb to produce a self-improvement title suitable for all ages. Amazingly the average person only uses about 2,000 words from the 16,500 words and definitions in the Cambridge Dictionary. An increased vocabulary is hugely beneficial in all aspects of life, especially in stressful situations such as job interviews.î

My Word Coach, available on the Nintendo DS and Wii , consists of six core training exercises modelled to help jobseekers learn the correct spellings of words and their definitions:

- Missing Letter: find the letter missing from the given word

- Split Decision: choose the correct definition for the given word

- Pasta Letter: spell out words using the given letters before they sink into the soup!

- Block Letters: use the Tetris-style blocks to spell out a listed word

- Word Shuffle: find that word that corresponds to the given definition

- Safe Cracker: only one word can open the safe ñ find it from the given definition faster than your friend!
