SHL Research Director, Dave Bartram, has been appointed Special Professor in Occupational Psychology and Measurement at the University of Nottinghamís prestigious Institute of Work, Health and Organisations (I-WHO). In this role, Bartram will Chair the Instituteís Advisory Committee and consult on matters relating to organisational and social psychology. He will also use the appointment as a platform to further develop the already strong research links between SHL and the Institute as well as providing support on training in psychometrics to the Masterís students.

The Institute is a postgraduate research school in applied psychology in the Faculty of Law & Social Sciences at Nottingham University. It centres on the contribution of applied psychology to occupational and public health and safety and to the provision of related health services leading to the development of healthy behaviours, healthy communities and healthy workplaces.

The Institute's aims are fourfold: To be

A world-class centre of excellence in research in applied psychology

A quality provider of postgraduate education in professional areas of applied psychology and closely related subjects

Active and influential in policy and related legal research and in policy development

A centre for the collection, evaluation and dissemination of information on research, education, practice and policy in its core areas.

There are considerable synergies between the Instituteís aims and SHLís corporate philosophy which looks to combine research and development and scientific rigour with commercial expertise to help organisations to demonstrably improve their effectiveness through objective measurement.

The Institute is international in outlook and is committed to working on the world stage through both the University and its international collaborations. It is a designated Collaborating Centre in Occupational Health of the World Health Organisation, and a member of the Topic Centre programme of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work.

In recent years, the Institute has provided applied research and advice for a wide variety of British and multinational companies - including the Ford Motor Company, SHELL International, Astra-Zeneca, and London Underground Limited - for governmental bodies and related agencies - including the UK Health & Safety Executive, the National Health Service Executive, the UK Department of Health, the International Union of Railways, the European Commission (DG V), the European Foundation for Improvements in the Quality of Working Life, and the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work - and for trades unions and professional bodies - including the British Medical Association, the Royal College of Nursing, the National Union of Teachers, UNISON and MSF.
