Cadbury Trebor Bassettís new generation of manufacturing apprentices have begun their new lives at Bournvilleís famous factory, hoping to follow in the footsteps of Mark Jones, current Head of Manufacturing, who began life as an apprentice more than 30 years ago.
Emma Roadknight from Shenley Court School in Northfield and Richard Keith Lawrence, from Colmers School and Sports College in Rednal, were recruited as part of Cadbury Trebor Bassettís Confectionery Apprenticeship Programme, and will spend two years at Bournville learning the ropes of life at the confectionery company.
The new apprentices will spend their time performing operator roles in the key areas of moulding and assortments, whilst studying for an NVQ Level 3 in Food and Drink Manufacturing Operations, supported by Otley College.
They will be mentored by key operators at every stage of their apprenticeship and report to line managers to ensure they are fully supported in their training.
Both Emma and Richard went through a comprehensive recruitment process, including application forms, assessment days, interviews and factory tours. They were chosen after performing strongly at all stages of the recruitment process, and displaying great team-working skills, motivation and accountability.
Mark Jones, Head of Manufacturing at Bournville, is delighted with the new recruits:
ìAt Bournville we are committed to increasing our investment of fresh talent in to the manufacturing business, and especially to look on our own doorstep for the next generation of talented leaders.
ìOur previous apprenticeship schemes have been very successful, ensuring we produce multi-skilled employees who understand the breadth of processes a factory of this size operates.
ìI began life at Bournville as an apprentice aged just 15, and I have every faith that we have chosen apprentices that have the potential to be our leaders of the future. I wish them every success.î
The Confectionery Apprenticeship Scheme works alongside CTBís World of Work programme. The programme provides pupils at schools in communities local to the Bournville factory with Cadbury mentors, factory visits and work experience placements to provide students with the right employability skills to apply for apprenticeship roles in the future.
