Figures released today reveal a huge talent pool of half a million people ñ enough to fill Wembley Stadium five times over - currently searching for university and research jobs online through jobs.ac.uk.
Results of a recent audit[1] show over 508,000 jobseekers are visiting the specialist jobs board www.jobs.ac.uk every month, with 180,000 people registered on the site to receive regular updates for jobs in academic, science, engineering and research sectors. 508,000 is the equivalent of 1 in every 120 people in the UK visiting the site every month. This is 15% more than this time last year, showing the increasing popularity of online searches in the sector.
Andrew Gordon, director of jobs.ac.uk says it is the huge variety of jobs in these sectors that is attracting so much interest: ìThe way most people approach their careers is changing radically. They are increasingly drawn to a range of sectors they may not have explored before because of the interesting jobs available and the opportunities to apply and develop their specialist skills. The types of jobs on offer include management, marketing, academic or business development roles.
ìTalented people are now looking beyond the commercial sector to plan their next career move. Universities also are ramping up their recruitment campaigns, increasing their brand awareness online and are becoming increasingly web-savvy in order to attract the growing number of online jobseekers.î
Specialist online jobs boards are becoming popular as a quick way to search for sector-specific jobs and keep updated with the latest roles. Recruiters are also increasingly using these sites to advertise jobs that require specialist skills.
