The Work Foundation appoints new board chairman

The Work Foundation today announces the appointment of John Peace, chairman of the FTSE 100 company Experian, as the new chairman of its board

The Work Foundation today announces the appointment of John Peace, chairman of the FTSE 100 company Experian, as the new chairman of its board.

Peter Ellwood, chairman of ICI and former chief executive of Lloyds TSB, who has chaired the board since November 2001, steps down today (August 1, 2007).

Will Hutton, chief executive of The Work Foundation, said: ëIt is a great honour for us to have someone of Johnís calibre take over as leader of our board. He is one of the most successful businesspeople of his generation and has the strategic experience to help drive forward our mission of promoting ëgood workí ñ how fairness at work and organisational performance can be combined.

ëPeterís will be a greatly missed presence. He has been a magnificent chair - steadfast, decisive, but always fair. His focused drive, energy and great experience have seen us through the transition from the Industrial Society to the inauguration of The Work Foundation and I thank him sincerely for the years of service he has given us.í

John Peace has been chairman of Experian, the global information solutions company, since the demerger by GUS plc in October 2006. He began his career at GUS in 1970, going on to perform roles including chief executive of GUS and Experian, and chairman of Burberry Group. He is also deputy chairman of Standard Chartered Bank, chairman of the board of governors of Nottingham Trent University, a member of the presidentís committee of the CBI, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He lists his recreations in Whoís Who as horse riding and golf.
