The Apprentice' - Job Site Denies Breach Of BBC Advert Rules

Senior Marketeer, Ivan Callanan, last night accused job site, 1Job, of possibly being involved in a breach of the BBC's advertising rules in the series 'The Apprentice'. 1Job's MD strenuously denies this serious accusation.

In the finale of the BBC's show 'The Apprentice', and immediately before Sir Alan Sugar selected the winner, he was clearly heard to say, and whilst looking towards Kristina 'There's only 1 Job'. This is a blatant endorsement of the internet job search engine, 1Job, to over 6 million viewers, many millions of whom could clearly be active or passive job hunter candidates, and this would be against the BBC's advertising rules, said Mr Callanan.

Julian Felstead MD of 1Job responded, I'm sure he was just making it clear to Simon and Kristina that there was only one job and that one of them was going to be unlucky. He was definitely not, in my opinion, recommending the 1Job.co.uk job search engine website. This is especially embarrassing with our association with the show as a major sponsor of the official 'The Apprentice Magazine' that's incidentally out now and available in all major bookshops and other major outlets.

Mr Felstead went on to say, Sir Alan may feel he had been inadvertently affected by some sort of NLP [Neuro Linguistic Programming] marketing techniques, that are nowadays employed by 1Job an award-winning eSuperbrand* job search website. If so, he should look out for this rather devious, but often extremely obvious technique.

Mr Callanan responded strongly by saying, It is possible, of course, that Sir Alan was unknowingly, but subliminally affected and he might actually have been trying to help Kristina, by advising her, and the millions of viewers, to visit the 1Job.co.uk website, where apparently there are over 300,000 great job vacancies displayed each day - frankly I just don't know. I do accept that the 1Job.co.uk's website must be useful for her and others though, and job advertisers of course wishing to promote candidates to their websites. After all it is the UK and Ireland's No.1 Job search engine** and a great site that can help to find the perfect 1 Job that will suit you.

Both Mr Felstead and Mr Callanan finally agreed that Sir Alan Sugar would never risk his knighthood in such way, and that the BBC's reputation also remains equally untarnished.

Mr Callanan is a senior marketer who, coincidentally is employed by 1Job.co.uk. (Presumably the term'senior' is used by him because he is the oldest member of the 1Job.co.uk team!).

* 1Job.co.uk was voted an eSuperbrand website by the Brand Council.
** Source Hitwise - 1Job.co.uk is a top 10 website Q1 2007.
