Team building that benefits charity

A executive coaching company has devised a way to improve teamwork that also benefits charity

Arnie Skelton from Effective Training & Development has devised a day-long workshop that requires delegates to organise and hold a real life charity auction. He explains: Itís fantastic. Delegates nominate a charity of their choice and then have just a matter of hours to collect items to be auctioned, publicise and administer the event.

After 15 years in training, this workshop is undoubtedly one of the best for increasing motivation, morale and teamwork. Theyíre also great fun and have the added bonus of raising money for charity.

Jan Souness, Head of Service, Chief Executives Unit at Warrington Borough Council, who recently took part in a Charity Auction Workshop,
said: When we were told what we had to do, we were all a bit daunted at first. But once we put our heads together, we started flying.

The workshop helped us to think creatively and really brought out our initiative. It certainly helped us to quickly deal with challenging situations. The funniest part was getting items to be auctioned - we ended up with all sorts of donations including a sombrero, guitar lessons, a guided tour of the local fire station and an ancient typewriter. We sold them though and ended up raising 450 for our Mayorís Charity Appeal.
