The Chartered Management Institute today launches a new career development tool to help its members plan their future more effectively

The Chartered Management Institute today launches a new career development tool to help its members plan their future more effectively. The service can be used to diagnose skills gaps, provide guidance on new career paths and suggest development methods. The new online tool will give members access to downloadable tips, expert advice and self-analysis tools to support them through each stage of their career.

The service is launched in the wake of research which revealed that career planning for all managers only occurs in a minority of organisations (18 per cent)*. The survey also found that only 20 per cent of managers expect to stay with their organisation for 10 years or more, signalling the need for individuals to retain currency of skills and assess their career options regularly.

To help individuals take control of their own career planning the Instituteís Career Development tool (www.managers.org.uk/careers) allows members to:

- Analyse their own skills and assess gaps they need to address in order to progress their career

- Learn about a variety of career routes and job descriptions

- Receive guidance on making successful job applications and the selection process

- Access tips and step-by-step ëhow toí checklists on a range of management topics

- Complete career analysis tools to help managers at a turning point in their careers decide on next steps
